At Lingfield we believe that involvement in drama teaches communication, collaboration and confidence. Drama can help students to find their voice and to express themselves clearly; a skill that is essential throughout life. There is so much to get involved in, whether acting in front of an audience or behind the scenes on the technical side.

All students are taught Drama in the Lower School, and it is a popular and successful option at GCSE level. They are all accommodated in our extended and refurbished teaching suite which includes two fully equipped studio spaces, technical, costume and make-up workrooms as well as a specialist Speech and Drama room. At Key Stage 3, students follow a course which includes six units of focus: skills, history of theatre, issue-based work, technical theatre, script and style or improvisation. They are encouraged to respond, create and perform, working in groups and building up their skills base alongside their confidence.

It’s really improved my confidence a lot and I can now work together well with other people.

Enrichment

In addition to the curriculum the Drama department runs a variety of clubs for all age groups:

  • Drama Clubs for Year 7, 8 & 9 as well as a Yr 7 & 8 Performance Skills Club for those looking to develop new skill beyond the curriculum.
  • Sound off is a discussion group focusing on communication skills. Students have the chance to air concerns or tackle issues in the safety of a supportive group.
  • Tech Club is for technical students to expand their skills in lighting, sound, set design and costume design. This club is also used to support technical GCSE Drama candidates and prepare for upcoming productions.

Drama Scholarships

Drama Scholarships are awarded to students who display an outstanding interest and talent for performance. They will exhibit a keen interest in the subject either at school or outside and will take a leading role in promoting the Drama and Theatre department and be ambassadors for the school. In turn, they will then be encouraged and supported in their development and skill to maximize their potential.
