Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week at Lingfield College

Georgia, Lingfield College Nursery Apprentice

We've caught up with Apprentice, Miss Cottrell, who works in the Cocoon at Lingfield Prep

1. Can you tell us a bit about your apprenticeship – the pathway you took, how long you have been here, what you’re doing in the nursery?

My name is Georgia (also known as Miss Cottrell!) I am an Early Years apprentice working towards a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification. I was first introduced to the Early Years sector when I had to do work experience during school. I chose to spend the day at a local Pre-school and ended up being offered a job around a year later to cover maternity leave. After working with children for over a year, I heard that Lingfield College was well-rounded, so I was keen to have a look and learn more about them. I was hired as a bank staff member at the Nursery shortly after. After being given this opportunity, I decided to enquire about an apprenticeship to become qualified.

I am currently on an 18-month contract working in The Cocoon Room, helping to establish enabling environments and learning from experienced positive role models.

2. What’s been the best thing about your apprenticeship so far?

I am personally a practical learner so my favourite part about an apprenticeship is being able to learn on the job, as well as completing assignments and completing my course.

3. Would you recommend an apprenticeship?

I learn something new every day just by coming to work. I was never interested in attending university, so I would recommend an apprenticeship because it has allowed me to further my education and qualify for something I am very interested in.

4. Do you have any plans for the future?

In the future, I plan to continue my education within the Early Years sector and work my way up the ladder.

5. Why do you think National Apprenticeship Week is important?

I think National Apprenticeship Week is important as Apprentices are the future of working society. They not only empower individuals but also fuel economic growth and innovation. National Apprenticeship Week helps raise awareness of the many benefits apprenticeships can offer and educates you on the many options and networks out there.

Georgia has been such an asset to our nursery team. Apprenticeships are a really great way for young people to develop skills and knowledge for a possible future career.
