Working Together: Students Complete Silver DofE Expedition on Isle of Wight

Congratulations to our Year 11 students, who completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Qualifying Expedition. Henrick's report below provides an insight into the challenges, teamwork and achievements that made the expedition a success.
The Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition to the Isle of Wight was an experience I will never forget. My team walked 48 km over three days and two nights.
We started early, taking a train from Clapham Junction to Southampton. Then we got on a ferry to the Isle of Wight. The journey to the island felt like an adventure, and we were all excited to be travelling as a team. When we got to the island we could not wait to start our challenge.
Over the three days we walked a total of 48 km. We carried everything we needed in our bags, including our tents, food and clothes. We used maps and compasses to find our way. We walked on paths, countryside trails and through small villages. The Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition was not always easy. There were hills and long walks. Our bags grew heavier as we walked farther.
We worked together as a team, helping each other when things got tough. We made sure everyone was okay, and that we were all going the right way. This is why we were able to finish the expedition.
Every evening, we set up our tents, cooked our food and rested. We were tired but happy to have finished the day's walk.

The Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition was worth it because of the scenery on the Isle of Wight. We walked along the coast through the countryside and saw amazing views. This is what the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is all about. It's about being outside and challenging ourselves.
I learnt a lot from the Silver DofE expedition. I learnt to be strong, to work on my own, to navigate, to work with a team and to solve problems. The Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition also made me more confident. I know I can get things done when I work with my team.
