Lingfield College celebrates Best Ever A Level and BTEC Results 2026

While the headline figures are impressive, they tell only part of the story. Behind them are the individual achievements of a year group who have worked hard, challenged themselves and pursued their interests and ambitions both inside and outside the classroom.

Results Highlights – Class of 2026

• 48% of grades awarded at A*-A or Distinction*-Distinction
• 81% of grades awarded at A*-B or Distinction*-Merit
• 90% of BTEC grades awarded Distinction* or Distinction
• 100% overall pass rate across all A Level and BTEC courses
• 94% of students heading to university secured their first-choice destination.

There were some exceptional individual achievements, too, with one in seven leavers achieving straight A* or A grades. Six students secured a clean sweep of A*s or D*s across all their subjects.

Students performed strongly across a wide range of subjects. Every grade awarded in Economics and Further Mathematics was A* or As, while Mathematics saw an exceptional 10 A* grades, with 64% awarded A*-A. In Business, 91% of grades were A*-B, while in Sport BTEC every grade was awarded Distinction* or Distinction. Excellent results were also achieved in German, Media Studies, Computer Science, Photography and English Literature.

The Class of 2026 will now head to a wide range of destinations. 94% of those progressing to university secured their first-choice place, with students heading to universities including Durham, Exeter, Warwick, Reading and Southampton. Others have secured competitive apprenticeships with EY, Disney, the National Audit Office and Grant Thornton, reflecting the breadth of routes students are choosing beyond Lingfield. “This is a superb set of results, and one that this year group can be very proud of. They’ve shown real commitment to their studies while contributing enormously to life at Lingfield, and to see that reflected in our strongest set of results is particularly pleasing.

What’s equally impressive is the breadth of what they have achieved alongside their studies - Duke of Edinburgh Awards, concerts and productions, regional and national levels in sport and much more in between.

Student Stories

But some of the best stories from Results Day can't be captured in percentages.

James achieved an outstanding set of results, with A*A*A in Mathematics, Physics and Further Mathematics, alongside an A in his EPQ. He will take up his first-choice place at Durham University to study Engineering, a field he has been interested in for several years and hopes to pursue as a career. James describes one of the biggest challenges of Sixth Form as balancing the demands of his A Levels and EPQ, and credits Mr Hoffman as a “massive mentor” who supported him with his studies, the STEP entrance exam, and university applications.

“I’m really happy as I got my first choice of university, which was the main thing I was hoping for this morning. It was really nice to see that all the hard work had paid off.”

Izzy celebrated an exceptional three A*s in Mathematics, Chemistry and Psychology and will now head to the University of Exeter to study Natural Sciences. Having joined Lingfield in Year 7, she described Sixth Form as her favourite part of her time at the School, praising the teaching and additional masterclasses that supported her studies. Alongside her academic achievements, Izzy has been an Eco Captain and Chemistry Captain, has played first-team hockey, and has performed in numerous School productions. Her reaction to opening her results was wonderfully simple: “I was really surprised, but so, so happy.”

Nathan achieved an exceptional four A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and will now head to the University of Warwick to study Mathematics and Physics. His Physics result meant the most after finding the practical element challenging and making use of additional support after School. Nathan credits the support he received in Sixth Form, particularly from Mrs Folkard, with helping him balance the demands of four A Levels and says his confidence has grown considerably during his time here. His advice to younger students is simple: “Enjoy your time. There is always support from teachers – you just have to ask for it.”

For Head Student Jess, who achieved AAB in Biology, Psychology and PE, the first feeling on Results Day was relief. “I checked UCAS this morning and it was a big relief to see that I got in. I am over the moon.” She will now head to Oxford Brookes University to study Physiotherapy, bringing together her interest in helping people with her love of sport, injuries and movement.

Jess, who joined Lingfield aged just 4, has embraced school life well beyond her studies. She captained the first-team hockey team, completed her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and found time to act as a mentor for younger students. For her, the Tanzania trip in Year 12 remains a particular highlight of her time here. She believes those experiences have helped build her confidence and resilience, and her advice to younger students is to “step out of your comfort zone and try new things, because sometimes those are the things that are most rewarding.”

Robbie achieved an outstanding A*A*A in Mathematics, Economics and History, alongside an A in his EPQ. As Mathematics and Economics Captain, he also helped to run clinics for students in both subjects. He will now study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Warwick. Away from academics, Robbie singles out the Tanzania trip as one of his most memorable Lingfield experiences, describing the people he travelled with and the places they visited as “unbelievable”.

There is a rather different year ahead for Head Student River, who achieved A*AA in Economics, German and English Literature. Before taking up his place at the University of Bristol to study Law, he will spend a year working in Lingfield’s Sports Department, alongside plans to train as a kitesurfing instructor.

River has been a key figure in School life as Head Student, as well as playing first-team football and basketball. Although his time as a student has come to an end, it is the friendships he has made that he says he will miss most: “I’m going to miss the friends that I have grown up with here, but the memories we built together will last a lifetime.”

An exciting next step awaits Charlie, who achieved a Distinction* in Media alongside Photography and Drama, and is now preparing to undertake a superyacht deckhand course. A familiar face across School life, Charlie threw himself into Drama – both acting and working behind the scenes – and describes the department as feeling like a family to him. Never one to sit still, he completed Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, including volunteering along the way, and, after finishing his exams, even spent time working with Lingfield’s Marketing team.

Charlie said, “The support at Lingfield has been amazing. Every teacher has put in so much effort to help me. I’m going to miss everything about Lingfield – the people, the environment. I love this school.”
