Year 11 set sail on thrilling Tall Ships trip
A day of learning new skills and building resilience.
Ten Year 11 students had an early start to their Tall Ships Sailing Day at the weekend. They arrived in Portsmouth to a slap-up breakfast on board Challenger 3, prepared by the amazing Tall Ships crew, led by Skipper Amy. These 72ft ships have all competed in the BT Global Challenge - billed as the world's toughest yacht race.
Conditions were certainly more favourable for our students, and they spent the day sailing the Solent; learning how to tack, helm, raise and flake sails, tie knots and navigate. All students bravely took on the Pole Climbing challenge, including three students who were scared of heights. Facing your fears and overcoming personal challenges is a key part of these kind of voyages and the students should be incredibly proud of their achievements across the day. Miss Ridley and Mrs Lewis certainly were! Students took on every challenge with determination, grit and smiles on their faces!
