Students Embrace the Joy of Reading with ‘Drop Everything and Read’
This week, Lingfield College has been celebrating something simple but powerful: the joy of reading.
As part of the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) initiative, students and staff take a break from their usual lessons every day at 11:25 a.m. and spend 20 minutes reading a book of their choice.
Inspired by the Read for Good campaign, this whole-school initiative encourages everyone to read every day, just because it feels good.
“The school has been buzzing with book talk. It’s been brilliant to see students swapping recommendations and discovering new genres. So many have said how calming and refreshing they find those 20 minutes, it’s quickly become a highlight of the day” said Mrs Fallows, Senior School Librarian.
Whether it’s a classic novel, a gripping thriller, a graphic novel, or even a bit of poetry, students and staff enjoy reading simply for themselves.
At Lingfield, we believe reading is for everyone, and it’s been wonderful to see our school community come together each day to share in something so rewarding.
