Lingfield College Celebrates International Volunteer Day

Lingfield College is proud to celebrate International Volunteer Day by recognising the outstanding commitment our students show towards community service, social action, and charitable engagement.
At Lingfield College, volunteering isn’t just encouraged, it’s a core part of school life. Across both the Prep and Senior Schools, students are empowered to make a positive difference in their communities, whether that’s supporting local charities, leading student-run events, or completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).
A Community That Gives Back
Students across all year groups take part in a wide range of volunteering opportunities, from structured programmes within school to independent initiatives in the broader community.
Year 9’s Giving Back Day: Each year, local primary school pupils are welcomed to Lingfield for a day of student-led activities, including sports sessions and creative workshops. Year 9 students plan, organise, and deliver the entire event themselves, developing teamwork, communication, and mentoring skills along the way. It’s a powerful introduction to volunteering and leadership, and a highlight of the school year for everyone involved.
Enrichment Week: Year 12 students also volunteer with a variety of local organisations. A popular placement is a nearby animal shelter, where students assist with daily care, cleaning, exercise, and socialisation of the animals. These experiences help pupils develop empathy, responsibility, and stronger ties with the local community.
Volunteering Beyond School
Many Lingfield students go even further, giving their time outside school hours. Several volunteers regularly work with organisations such as St John Ambulance and other local community groups. Through this work, pupils build confidence, acquire vital skills, and leadership responsibilities.
Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award continues to play a key role in student volunteering at Lingfield. During 2024–2025 alone, students contributed more than 1,924 hours of service, creating an estimated £12,312 of social value for the local community.
DofE participants support a wide range of causes, including work at charity shops and care-focused volunteering. These opportunities help students develop resilience, independence, and a strong sense of responsibility, skills that will serve them well beyond their school years.
Building a Culture of Compassion and Leadership
Lingfield College is proud of every student who chooses to give their time to help others. Volunteering builds character, strengthens community ties, and empowers young people to lead with kindness.
As the school celebrates International Volunteer Day, it extends its thanks to students, staff, and community partners who make service and social action such a central part of the Lingfield experience.
