Gold and Silver DofE Head to Bannau Brycheiniog on Training Expeditions

Gold DofE

The Gold and Silver annual pilgrimage to Bannau Brycheiniog, otherwise known as the Brecon Beacons was a great success. Departing Monday with Storm Kathleen looming was a daunting prospect, but fortunately the deluge that was expected in the Welsh Mountains missed and hit the South of England. There was still plenty of rain but what was not absent were the high winds and gusts on the mountains which certainly made the hiking a tough, challenging but exhilarating experience. As the expedition progressed the weather improved and on the final day of both expeditions the weather was idyllic (for hiking) - hopefully, this will be the students' lasting memory of their training expedition!

For Silver, the Isle of Wight looms in late June and should be a walk in the park - as the old sporting maxim goes, " train hard - play easy". The same cannot necessarily apply for Gold as they venture to the Highlands of Scotland which is a step up from Wales, and where they will be summitting, weather permitting, Ben Nevis, and traversing Glen Nevis. Fingers crossed for good weather for both.

Well done on two great training expeditions and looking forward to the qualifying expeditions.

Mr Stanton, Head of DofE
