Geography Students see Northern lights in Iceland
Year 10 and 11 Geography students started the Easter holiday with a memorable five-day trip to Iceland, visiting sights such as the Golden Circle, Thingvellir National Park and the Bridge between the Continents.
"After a very early start on the first day, we arrived at a heated swimming pool with a series of hot tubs ranging from 35°C to 44°C which removed any feeling of cold from the tundra environment. This prepared us well for cave exploration later on which consisted of a walk through a 1.4km lava tunnel surrounded by beautiful icicles and stalagmites. On days two and three, we ventured behind powerful waterfalls and even stood between the Eurasian and North American plates. The highlight on the penultimate day was seeing the Northern Lights after a long day of visiting various landforms near Reykjavik. Their greeny-blue appearance took us all by surprise by just how astonishing they are. This then summed up what was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and gave us all many stunning memories."
