Lingfield College Unveils New Sixth Form Dining Hall
Our newly refurbished Sixth Form Dining Hall has opened for the new academic year, creating a contemporary new space designed around the way our Sixth Form students eat, meet and spend time together.
There is something special about moving into Sixth Form. It should feel different. Students have greater independence, more ownership of their time and, as they begin to look beyond school towards university, apprenticeships and future careers, an increasing sense of what comes next. We wanted their environment to reflect that too.
Over the summer, we have completely transformed our Sixth Form Dining Hall and servery, creating a dedicated space for our Year 12 and 13 students that feels distinctly Sixth Form: grown-up, welcoming and sociable.
Designed around Sixth Form life
Designed around the themes of natural, energised and contemporary, the new Dining Hall moves away from a traditional school dining space. Large communal tables provide ample space for students to come together, while bespoke booth seating creates smaller, more relaxed areas. A new breakfast bar and window seating offer further informal spaces to eat, catch up with friends or simply enjoy some downtime between lessons.
Natural timber, planting, deep blues and warm terracotta tones bring warmth and character to the room, while acoustic wall features and suspended ceiling panels have been incorporated to create a comfortable environment even when the Dining Hall is at its busiest. The servery has been completely redesigned, too, bringing the same contemporary feel to the whole space.
But while we love how it looks, the thinking behind the refurbishment goes far beyond the design.

More than somewhere to eat
Sixth Form is an important bridge between school and independent life, and having spaces that support that transition matters.
Our Sixth Form students already have their own dedicated Centre, with spaces to study, meet and socialise. The new Dining Hall adds another dimension: a place to step away from lessons, spend time with friends, recharge, and enjoy being part of the Sixth Form community.

“Sixth Form should feel different. It’s a time when students are becoming more independent, making decisions about their futures and taking greater ownership of their school experience. Having a space that is genuinely their own is an important part of that. The new Dining Hall gives our students a place to come together, relax, and enjoy each other’s company. It feels grown-up and welcoming, but still has that strong sense of community that is such an important part of Sixth Form life at Lingfield. I’m really looking forward to seeing the students make it their own."

The refurbishment is part of our continued investment in the Sixth Form experience at Lingfield, creating an environment that combines greater independence with the sense of belonging and community that remains so important throughout Years 12 and 13.
