Lingfield College Students Explore the History and Culture of Berlin

Over four days in Berlin, Lingfield College students enjoyed an educational and engaging adventure, combining history, culture, and interactive learning experiences.
Day 1: Arrival and City Tour
The trip began with an early morning departure from Gatwick Airport. Upon arrival, students embarked on a guided walking tour spanning approximately 14 km across the city, exploring key historical sites and learning about Berlin’s rich and complex past. The day concluded with a visit to the Reichstag, where students had the opportunity to explore its iconic glass dome. After checking in at the hostel, the group enjoyed dinner and an energetic table tennis tournament in the courtyard.
Day 2: Museums and Reflection
The second day included a visit to the Berlin Global Museum, where students engaged in activities exploring themes such as equality, freedom, security, and tradition. Students also practised their German language skills at the Mall of Berlin, applying their learning in real-world contexts.
In the afternoon, the group visited one of the remaining sections of the Berlin Wall, gaining insight into the city’s division during the Cold War. A reflective visit to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe provided an opportunity for thoughtful discussion. The evening concluded at Potsdamer Platz, where students selected dinner in a vibrant food hall before returning to the hostel.
Day 3: Immersive History and the Arts
Day three featured an educational visit to the Deutsches Museum, where interactive exhibits highlighted Germany’s history from the Middle Ages to the present day. In the afternoon, students revisited sections of the Berlin Wall to deepen their understanding of the city’s reunification. The evening included dinner at a traditional German restaurant, followed by a performance of Romeo and Juliet – The Musical, combining history and the arts.
Day 4: Creativity and Farewell
The final day concluded with a visit to the Upside-Down Museum, offering students the chance to enjoy interactive exhibits and take creative photographs.
The Berlin trip offered a valuable balance of education, culture, and personal growth. Students returned with new knowledge, memorable experiences, and a deeper appreciation for Germany's history and culture.
