Students Experience Spanish Culture on a Trip to Santander

Over half-term, 21 students from Years 8, 9 and 12 went on a fantastic trip to Santander. After landing at Bilbao airport, we went straight into a busy schedule full of fun and educational activities. These ranged from visiting the iconic Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao to eating delicious churros in an ancient coffee shop, whilst taking in the local atmosphere.
On Sunday, we visited three different Spanish villages accompanied by a lovely tour guide called Sol: San Vicente de la Barquera, Comillas and Santillana del Mar, with its picturesque, cobbled streets where we had the chance to do some souvenir shopping. These beautiful villages really provided us with an insight into Spanish culture, along with the fascinating facts shared by the tour guide. On the educational side, we had a two-hour Spanish lesson to improve our conversational skills and boost our confidence when speaking Spanish in real-life situations.
On the last day, we participated in salsa and stomping flamenco dance lessons as well as a boat tour of the city of Santander. Additionally, after a long day of activities, we would spend our evenings relaxing or having fun on the beach before and sometimes even after dinner. The Santander trip was not only engaging but also enhanced our Spanish-speaking abilities whilst showing us the vibrant culture of northern Spain, alongside some delicious ice-creams, sunny beaches and incredible landscapes.
