Lingfield Students reach the final of IEA Budget Challenge 2024

Lingfield Students reach the final of IEA Budget Challenge 2024

On Tuesday 27th February, three Year 12 students, Simreth, Zac and Lyra attended the IEA Budget Challenge semi-finals at the Vinson Centre, Buckingham University.

Lingfield College was one of the 16 schools that got through to the semi-final, and to reach this stage, the team competed against hundreds of different schools across the country with their proposed budget for the UK government. The students had to research and propose economic policies regarding topics such as healthcare, education, housing, and the environment, but more importantly, they had to figure out how to fund and implement them.

Their presentation was shown to a panel of judges from the IEA who then asked several difficult questions regarding the proposed budget. Whilst a rather academically challenging experience for the students, and the team being new to the subject of economics, they learnt a huge amount from it.

The Lingfield team has been selected as one of four teams to make it to the finals on the 26th  March at the IEA offices in Westminster.
