Sixth Formers Secure Second Place at IEA Budget Challenge

Congratulations to Lingfield students Robbie, Miko and Alexander, who are IEA Budget Challenge 2025 Runners-Up. The Sixth Form team took part in the finals on Tuesday presenting their final budget to a board of judges at the IEA offices in London. The IEA budget challenge is a valuable experience for students to hone research, teamwork and presentation skills. It is also an enjoyable day of networking with students from other schools.

One of the main takeaways from this experience was the opportunity to receive constructive feedback and speak with the experienced economists who evaluated our budget.

For me, this challenge has revealed just how daunting the task of crafting a government budget truly is. We were tempted to rely on borrowing, but ultimately this just kicks the can down the road. Our budget was an attempt to cut through these uncertainties with a vision of long-term supply side growth through spending cuts.

This challenge has reinforced a powerful lesson—when the odds seem impossible, determination and teamwork can make all the difference.
