Lingfield Drama’s West End Trip Takes a Royal Turn

Lingfield Drama visited the Noël Coward Theatre this week to see Stephen Fry star as Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest. The performance was a standout one — sharp, funny and full of clever staging — but it was an unexpected moment that made the evening truly memorable.

Partway through the night, students realised they were sharing the audience with King Charles and Queen Camilla, who were watching from the Royal Box. It added an extra layer of excitement to an already impressive production.

Charlie, in Year 13, shared their experience:

On Thursday the 20th of November, myself along with other drama scholars and students travelled up to London to go and watch ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’. The play is an Oscar Wilde comedy about two men, Jack and Algernon, who invent fake personas to escape social obligations. The play revolves around their love of marrying women who are only interested in marrying someone called Earnest. With countless laughs, dramatic moments and amazing set changes, the whole play was very entertaining. An amazing surprise was to see the King and Queen in the Royal Box. After the show we managed to see them leave and they came right up to us!

A memorable evening of theatre with a royal twist.
