Developing our Athletes Through Mentoring

We are proud of the enthusiasm and commitment our students bring to their sport, and as part of our ongoing development of the Sports Scholarship Programme, we offer a series of short mentoring sessions.

We believe this form of mentoring is a key component in helping each scholar become not only a stronger performer but also a more well-rounded, self-aware athlete. It encourages accountability, self-reflection, and personal growth – skills that benefit them well beyond sport.

The purpose of these mentoring sessions is to provide each scholar with time and space to reflect on their progress, receive guidance, and set meaningful goals throughout their sporting journey. Topics may include:

  • Balancing academic and sporting commitments
  • Managing training load, recovery, and nutrition
  • Setting short and long-term performance goals
  • Understanding leadership, teamwork, and communication in sport
  • Dealing with setbacks, pressure, and injury
  • Exploring pathways and opportunities beyond school
  • Reflecting on personal values, motivation, and mindset.

Our Sports Scholarship programme is about more than performance. These mentoring sessions are designed to complement the excellent technical and physical work already taking place within our sports and Strength & Conditioning programmes.

I found it very helpful to talk with my coach about my sporting goals and the ways the school can help me achieve them.

Alex, year 13
