Music Students Inspired by Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall

On Thursday evening, our Music Scholars and GCSE/A Level Music students travelled to London’s Royal Festival Hall for an unforgettable night of live orchestral music performed by the world-renowned Philharmonia Orchestra.

The programme opened with a vibrant and energetic performance of Berlioz’s Le Carnaval Romain, setting an exciting tone for the evening. This was followed by the London Premiere of Gabriela Ortiz’s new Trumpet Concerto, performed by the exceptional Pacho Flores, whose stunning tone and expressive range left a lasting impression on our students. A particular highlight was the audience’s enthusiastic shout of “Tequila!” during his playful nod to the well-known melody.

After the interval, the Philharmonia delivered a powerful and vivid interpretation of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique — a key work in the A Level Music curriculum. Experiencing the piece live enriched students’ understanding of its orchestration and storytelling, deepening their appreciation beyond classroom study.

All of the students thoroughly enjoyed the concert and returned feeling inspired and energised for their own rehearsals this week. This memorable evening reinforced their passion for music and the strength of the curriculum here at Lingfield College.
