The Sixth Form at Lingfield College celebrates consistently good results at A Level with the vast majority of students gaining their first choice university place. In 2015, over 70% of all students received an A*- B grade, with 45% achieving an A/A* grade in their results. This year, our past students will start university courses across the country, which include English Literature at Oxford, Law at Bristol, English & Film Studies at King’s (London), Dentistry at Queen’s (Belfast), Medicine at Brighton & Sussex Medical School, Public Relations at Lincoln and Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough.

The students achieve these results through a combination of ability, hard work, superb teaching and the unstinting support they receive. The strong tutorial system in the Sixth Form closely supports the students with their studies and their personal development. We look after them, monitor them closely and offer an array of strategies to help them if they are struggling and to enable them to achieve the highest possible marks and grades. The ways in which students can extend their academic experience are numerous and varied, with new initiatives in place, such as a Pre-U qualification in Global Perspectives and the 4000 word Extended Essay Competition.

Many of them do far better than they or their parents would ever have thought possible. I feel privileged to see the students become articulate, well-educated young men and women. Watching them open their envelopes on Results Day and realising they have got their chosen university place is a very proud moment.

This is an exciting time for the Sixth Form at Lingfield. Our new Sixth Form Centre opened for students in September 2014. It offers a modern and dynamic environment for our Sixth Formers, featuring a 150 seater university-style lecture theatre, six teaching rooms, an Apple media suite, a Costa-style coffee shop in our central atrium area, a contemporary common room and quiet study areas. The Centre was specifically designed to complement the School’s existing facilities while giving our senior students more independence, status and technologically advanced facilities.
