Hockey

Hockey is the major sport for the girls in the Autumn Term and for the boys in the Spring Term. With a fresh hockey programme put into place in 2014/15, we have grown from strength to strength in a single year. Both the boys and girls enter county, district and national tournaments.

Here at Lingfield we have a full-size sand dressed AstroTurf in the heart of the school grounds with an overlooking pavilion and balcony. Floodlights have recently been installed, which has extented the training sessions.

At Lingfield we encourage everyone to participate in hockey throughout the Years, arranging fixtures for all capabilities. We currently field the following teams:

Boys

Girls

1st XI, 2nd XI

1st XI, 2nd XI

U15 A, B

U14 A, B

U13 A, B, C XI

U12 A, B, C, D, E

The current success of hockey at Lingfield includes a record number of county players and others making the Tonbridge Tigers JRPC team.

This season will see a record number of teams being fielded and an increasingly more handsome fixture card, including some very successful nationwide hockey schools.
We have built great links with local clubs and create a feeding programme into these clubs to enable the pupils to get the maximum out of hockey around the area. We have a current link with one of the country’s most successful clubs, East Grinstead, and also look to feed players into Oxted Hockey Club.

The Head of Hockey is Ben Mackey who joined Lingfield College in September 2018 following two years as the Hockey Professional at Dean Close School. Ben has experience of coaching at the highest levels of school competitions as well as coaching within the England Hockey Player Pathway system. He has represented England at U16, U18 and U21, and played for teams in Tasmania and San Francisco. Ben currently plays for East Grinstead 1st XI.

The hockey coaching staff also includes Maddie Thompson and Andy Blood who are both qualified PE teachers and Level 2 hockey coaches. Maddie plays for the Ladies 1st XI at Sevenoaks Hockey Club, and is also involved in the England Hockey Player Pathway coaching set up, where she coaches the Performance Centre (Regional) U17 and JAC (County) U16 team. Andy is a member of the East Grinstead 1st XI squad and has been involved in JAC and JDC level coaching. He has also coached overseas in Spain and the Netherlands.

Completing our trio of East Grinstead first team players we are very lucky to have Dutch ex-Premier league player Tijn van Grossen as our Hockey Professional. Tijn has represented Holland at junior and senior level which gives him a superior technical knowledge of the game.

Every two years, the hockey teams have the opportunity to travel abroad for a Tour, with the most recent one being to Holland.
