Cricket
Cricket at Lingfield College has taken huge strides in the last couple of years.
A winter’s programme for all ages is underway throughout the Spring Term, during lunchtimes and after school, with players working on technical and tactical improvements to their games through cricket nets. There are also individual coaching sessions as well as specialist help for the wicket keepers.
Lingfield also has access to current technological and visual coaching aides, as well as bowling machines and it is pleasing to see how many of the pupils are now blending into the local cricket clubs at all levels.
The facilities for cricket at Lingfield are impressive. Set in beautiful surroundings, the School has two cricket squares with excellent surfaces. These are supplemented by an indoor hall boasting four lanes of indoor nets and an area comfortably big enough for fielding and skills work. Indoor matches are also played. Outside there is a six lane artificial net complex providing outstanding facilities in terms of bounce and batting conditions.
The fixture list is becoming more competitive year on year. Schools in both Surrey and Sussex are now regular opponents with Caterham, John Fisher, Reigate Grammar, Sevenoaks, Wilsons, Hurst, Ardingly and Worth to name just a few as well as several from the Prep school age range. We also enter the Surrey Schools Cups at all ages as well as the U15 ECB National competition. Every two years the cricket teams have the opportunity to travel abroad for a Tour. Barbados was visited most recently.
