Lingfield Nursery and Reception Staff

The Foundation Stage is managed by Mrs Wild, ably supported by Reception Leader Mrs Bowler. We pride ourselves on having an excellent team of staff in the Foundation Stage, most of whom have worked at the school for many years, demonstrating a commitment and loyalty to the school as well as a love for the work they do.

All staff are carefully chosen with qualifications in Early Years, and for their caring and nurturing nature. The team all work closely with each child, displaying an enthusiastic, energetic and dynamic approach.

Our most recent ISI Inspection Report states, Children's welfare, learning and development needs are exceptionally well met by caring staff, inspirational teaching, and stimulating open-ended experiences recognising the uniqueness of each child.

Dawn Wild - Assistant Head & Holiday Club Leader

As an experienced Early Years practitioner I recognise the great importance of the first steps that children take on their path to learning. The formative years in the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) provide the base for the challenges of Year 1. The significance of the choice parents must make in selecting a school is vital to ensure their children have the best opportunity available.

As the mother of three children who have all attended the school, I have had to make similar decisions to those that face our parents, which I am very mindful of in my role. It is my strong belief that the outstanding results we achieve in our Nursery and Reception classes are a result of the dedicated work of our fantastic and highly motivated team. Our staff work tirelessly to ensure that we provide a safe, warm and caring environment in which our children can learn and develop. The marvellous facilities that we enjoy at the school, coupled with the happy and friendly environment make our setting a wonderful place for children to flourish. It is also why such a number of our fantastic team have been with us for many years.

I originally joined the Foundation Stage in 2004 as a Teaching Assistant in the Caterpillars class, and have previously worked in other local nursery environments including settings which catered for children with Special Needs. One of the most satisfying aspects of my role is seeing so many children, who I remember teaching basic colours, letters and numbers to during my first days in the Nursery, now flourishing in the Senior School. While I resist the temptation (well most of the time!) to remind them of some of those early days in Nursery, it is very rewarding to see how they have benefitted from the opportunities that the whole school has to offer. How their life at Lingfield started in Nursery and has now progressed through to GCSE studies and A Levels.

I see how they have developed into well rounded and independent students of whom everyone at Lingfield College is very proud indeed.

Jen Bowler - Reception Leader

I started working at Lingfield College in 2008 as a Teaching Assistant. I then left and went on to complete my PGCE, having previously studied for a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science. I returned to Lingfield in 2010 as an NQT and have been working in Reception ever since. I am a trained Forest School Leader and thoroughly enjoy taking children from Nursery to Year 6 out for sessions in our Forest School. I have completed Autistic Spectrum Disorder Training, Teaching Children with Specific Learning Difficulties and Behavioural Management courses. I feel extremely grateful to have found my vocation working in Early Years, and am passionate about providing an engaging, nurturing and exciting learning environment.

Gemma Coomber - Early Years Practitioner

I have just returned to Lingfield college (2019) after having my daughter a few years ago in 2016. I have a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education and have worked in a nursery since I gained this in 2009. I really enjoy being part of each child’s education and development, it is such a rewarding job. It’s so exciting when they accomplish something and they are so proud of themselves, as we are too!

Tanya Williams - Reception Teacher

I joined Lingfield College in September 2019, at the start of my seventeenth year of teaching. I began my degree in Education and English Literature specialising in Key Stage 2, but fell in love with the Early Years during a teaching practise and have made it the focus of my career. After qualifying in 2002 I spent nine years working in inner city London schools before spending some time training other teachers and teaching assistants in the teaching of early Literacy and Phonics. I moved into school leadership, with a focus on the foundation stage, but have happily found my way back to classroom teaching after having my three daughters. I have a passion for developing early reading and writing and have always been interested in the role of play in childhood development, having written my dissertation on the subject. I believe that each child and each family deserves an individual approach to best meet their unique needs, and take pride in finding ways to make this happen.

Candice Daugherty - Reception Teacher

Since completing my PGCE in 2004 at Kingston University I have predominantly worked in Reception and Year 1 classrooms.  I started working at Lingfield College in 2015 and love being part of such a welcoming and nurturing environment where the children are thriving and happy. As Healthy Schools Coordinator, I am passionate about children’s health and wellbeing. I am trained to teach Yoga and Mindfulness to children and aim to incorporate this into my classroom as much as possible, as well as fostering confidence and emotional intelligence.

Emma Reid - Early Years Lead Practitioner

I have worked at Lingfield College Nursery since 2014.  I have a CACHE level 3 qualification in Childcare and I am currently in my fourth and final year of completing my university degree to gain a qualification within the Early Years.  I really enjoy working with children and supporting them with their progression in learning and developmental stages.

Natalie Shenton - Early Years Deputy Lead Practitioner

I have worked at Lingfield College Nursery since 2004.  I have a Diploma in Pre School practice level 3. In my own time I have been a Brownie Leader for over 15 years. I really enjoy working with children and providing exciting, stimulating activities to help them achieve their milestones.

Karen Ovington - Deputy Nursery Manager

Julie Newland - Early Years Practitioner

I have worked at Lingfield College since 2008 and have a DPP Cache NVQ 2 in Childcare and Education. My time here has been spent in the Foundation Stage, starting in nursery then moving into Reception. To me this is the most wonderful job. Caring, nurturing and teaching precious young children, watching their confidence build knowing that they feel secure and cared for in such a lovely environment.  Every day is new, exciting and filled with fun.
