What are the times of the school day?

Prep 

Morning registration: 8.30 am

Lunchtime: 12.00 pm - 1.10 pm (with some variations)

Reception and KS1 finish: 3.30 pm

KS2 finish: 3.45 pm

The school runs a late room where younger siblings can wait until 3.40 pm for KS2 siblings to finish 

KS2 Study club finishes: 5.00 pm

Senior

Breakfast is available from: 7.45 pm

Morning registration: 8.30 pm

Lunchtime: 12.40 pm - 1.55 pm

Finish: 3.50 pm

Clubs finish at: 5.00 pm

How is the School structured?

Our Early Years Foundation Stage is made up of the following classes: 

  • The Cocoon (from 6 months)
  • Caterpillars (ages 2- 3)
  • Butterflies (ages 3-4)
  • Rainbows and Sunbeams (Reception)

From Years 1 to 6, children are considered to be in Prep School. This is broken into two stages: 

  • Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) 
  • Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 & 6)

The Senior School is situated on a separate campus. Students from the Prep School and other schools join us here in Year 7. 

  • The Lower School (Years 7, 8 & 9)
  • The Upper School (Years 10 & 11)

The Sixth Form is for students aged 16-18

Which subjects are set on ability?

Prep School 

  • English is set from Year 4
  • English & Maths is set from Year 5

Senior School

  • Maths is set on ability from the beginning of Year 7.
  • English and Modern Languages are set partway through Year 7.
  • Science is set from the beginning of Year 9.

What are the average class sizes? 

Prep School

Class sizes vary from 15 to 24, depending on the year group. 

Senior School

  • Lower Years - Class sizes are no larger than 22
  • Upper Years - Class sizes vary and are dependent on subject choices along with setting in Maths and Science
  • Sixth Form - Class sizes are generally smaller and dependent upon subject choice

Which language options are available? 

Prep School 

Pupils are taught by a specialist language teacher. They will study:

  • French from Nursery until Year 3
  • French and Spanish from Year 4
  • German is introduced in Year 6 as a taster language to help children decide which languages they would like to continue at Senior School.

There are a number of extra-curricular clubs including a Languages club for year 2 upwards, and French, Spanish and German Enrichment Clubs.

Senior School

The language options are French, German and Spanish. Students study Spanish and either French or German. 

  • Two languages in Years 7-8
  • One or two languages in Year 9
  • One or two languages in Years 10 & 11.

What were the GCSE and A Level results in 2023?

How many forms are in each year group? 

  • In Prep School there are usually 1 or 2 classes per year group until Year 6 
  • In Years 7 - 11, there are between 6 and 7 forms per year group. 
  • In years 12 & 13, there are 8 forms per year group.

What sort of after-school provision do you have? 

Do you run a breakfast club? 

Prep School

Breakfast club is available to children in Reception to Year 6. It takes place from 7.30 am every morning in the Prep School dining room, where Prep School classroom assistants will supervise children. 

The breakfast offered includes a bacon or sausage bap and a drink, or cereal and toast with a drink. Healthy yogurts, fruit, and smoothies are also available. Parents are welcome to have breakfast in our dining room every day of the week or if they prefer they can have a takeaway.  

Senior School

Breakfast is served daily at the senior school from 7:45 am

Do you accept International Students? 

We are happy to accept applications from International students who would like to be day pupils at the School. Our international students will be highly valued members of our community, demonstrating dedication to academic study and involvement in wider school life.

Academically, Lingfield students produce excellent exam pass rates, and we pride ourselves on the outstanding support we give our students which enables them to successfully progress to the university or career of their choice.

We are licensed by the Home Office to sponsor international students wanting to study with us. We can issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for Tier 4 student visas.

Entry Procedure:

In the first instance, all interested candidates should contact our Admissions Registrar, Mrs Jo Armstrong, by emailing her at admissions@lingfieldcollege.co.uk

  • All applications need to be supported by a copy of the student’s latest school report and an academic reference, from their current school
  • Details of all examinations taken or due to be taken, including iGCSEs
  • A copy of the student’s passport showing their photographic ID
  • Evidence of the standard of English achieved. We require students to sit the Oxford Placement Tests in the highest level, IELTS level 5 upwards or an equivalent. These are taken in the students’ home country
  • Once applications have been reviewed, we may ask students to sit our own entry tests. We may also invite students to sit the UKiset tests
  • Students may be asked to have an interview via Skype if understandably they are unable to visit
  • Selected overseas students must complete an Application Form and return it to the Admissions Office with a fee of £130.

 

Where can I find out about bus routes?

Space on all our bus routes needs to be booked in advance through our partner StudentSafe.

During the winter months (November – February), a shuttle service runs between the School and Lingfield station at 4.55 pm for those students in after-school activities.
