Rotary Youth Speaks Competition

Lingfield’s Public Speaking Club participated in the Rotary Youth Speaks Competition on Sunday evening at the Chequer Mead Theatre in East Grinstead. They competed against teams from Sackville and Imberhorne. Lingfield’s subject for discussion, devised by the students, was 'Social change over the last 100 years has been to the detriment of British Society.' Will M was the Proposer, Alex A the Opposer and Patrick J was Chair.

The standard was exceptionally high from all teams in both the Intermediate and Senior levels and we are delighted that Lingfield College won the Senior competition and will now go forward to the District semi-finals in February 2020.

Alex received special commendation from the judging panel for his passionate and unscripted response to Will's argument and they said a career in Politics clearly beckons! He was also praised by members of the Sackville Senior team.

The judges included Rex Whittaker, Previous Town Mayor, Glen Campbell, Editor/ Correspondent BBC South East and Helen Farren from Estcots School. The team received some excellent individual feedback from Mr Whittaker and will take this on board for the next stage of the competition.

Well done to all who competed and many thanks for the Rotary Club of East Grinstead for organising.
