Prep School Cross Country Success
We once again attended the annual U11 & U9 ISA Regional Cross Country event on Monday 22nd January at Frewen College in Northiam. The top 10 finishers in each race qualify to represent the ISA London South Region at the Nationals on Saturday 3rd March 2018.
The U9 girls’ race was the first of the day and a field of 27 set off on the very uneven 1200m course. Our first girl to finish was Poppie, who ran with determination to take 9th place and qualify for the National event. Our second competitor across the finish line was Jasmine in 19th, closely followed by Hannah in 21st place and Ellie in 24th position.
The U9 boys were the next to compete over the same course and we once again saw a fine display of determined running by of our team of athletes. All four of our Lingfield boys finished inside the top ten and secured their place to represent the region at the National event. A magnificent run by Charlie ensured he finished 1st and won the regional title. Jayden ran superbly finishing in 4th place, closely followed by Matthew and Max who ran extremely well to finish in 8th and 10th respectively. The boys’ hard work was also rewarded by them convincingly taking 1st place and winning the trophy in the team event.
A mixture of year 5 and 6 girls took to the start line of the U11 girls’ race which was over a longer distance of 1850m. Our first girl to finish the race was Daisy, (Yr 6), who ran with determination to finish in 12th place. She was closely followed by Izzy in 16th place and Enya in 19th place, who are both still in year 5. We had further gritty performances from Sophia, (Yr 5), finishing in 31st place and Amelia, (Yr 6), who finished in 34th place.
In the final race of the day our 7 Lingfield boys competed over the same 1850m course. This race set off at a very fast pace and our first boy across the finish line was Max, (Yr 5), who ran very well to take 19th place. We had further determined performances from Rory, (Yr 6), who finished in 25th, Oliver, (Yr 6), in 31st place, Edward, (Yr 6), in 35th, West, (Yr 6) in 37th, Joe, (Yr 5), in 39th place and Rory, (Yr 6), in 59th position.
Many congratulations to all of our athletes who once again represented the school extremely well in this competitive event.
We would like to wish our U9 runners Poppie, Charlie, Jayden, Matthew and Max the very best of luck as they go forward to represent the London South Region at the National Championships on Saturday 3rd March at Princethorpe College in Rugby.
Finally, thank you very much to all of our parents who were able to support on the day and cheer all our young athletes over the finish line.
