Lingfield College Prep Qualify for ISA National Finals

On Friday 1st March, 13 schools from across the London South region travelled to our school for the ISA Regional Netball Tournament. This is the fifth successive year that we have hosted this tournament.

We started our campaign very well with a superb opening win, 3-1, against Cumnor House. We knew our next opponents, Oakhyrst Grange, would be strong, so applied pressure from the first whistle, scoring two goals quickly. However, we lost possession towards the end of this match to allow our opponents to claw one goal back, final result 2-1.

Our next encounter against Rosemead saw us dominate this match and achieve a comfortable 6-0 win. We then played Merton Court who had been comfortably winning all of their previous matches. However, we played very well defensively and capitalised on our shooting opportunities to draw this match 2-2. We used our next break in the tournament to iron out a few passing and spacing problems and looked much more in control for our final two matches against Steephill and Weston Green Schools, winning both encounters 5-0 and 6-0 respectively.

Our excellent performances in the group stage resulted in our team winning their group and progressing to the quarter finals, where we faced Westward Prep. The girls maintained their winning run, securing a 5-0 win and set up a semi-final against previous group opponents Merton Court. Our girls played with great determination and focus in this match knowing that a win would guarantee a place at the National Finals. With this in mind, we attacked strongly, defended solidly and secured a place in the final of the tournament with a 3-0 victory. In the final we would once again face another previous group opponent in Oakhyrst Grange. In an end to end final where we played some very good netball, we were unfortunate to lose 4-5 in an extremely tight game.

We are extremely proud of the team’s performance and many congratulations for winning the Silver medal and gaining qualification to the National Finals. These will be held at the Queen Elthelburga’s Collegiate in York on Saturday 16th March 2019.

Very well done to; Isabel, Sophia, Olivia, Chloe, Carla, Miya, Jessica and Izzy.
