ISA National Athletics Finals
After successfully qualifying from their regional events, 6 Lingfield Prep athletes travelled to Birmingham on Wednesday 19th June to take part in the ISA National Athletics championships.
Some of our Year 4 competitors were amazed at the sheer size of the Alexander Stadium and were naturally a little nervous, due to them being the youngest age category in this event.
Lingfield Prep’s first athlete to compete was Joe, in the Year 6 cricket ball throw. Joe performed very well to finish in fourth place, just 50 centimetres outside of the medal positions.
Sophia was our first track competitor in the Year 4 600m race. She ran superbly, achieving a personal best time of 2 minutes 8 seconds, to finish in 7th position. Next to race was Charlie who took to the start line in the Year 5 boys 600m event. He paced his race extremely well and finished strongly to take 5th place position, achieving a personal best time of 1 minute 55 seconds.
All eyes were next on the long jump pit where Sophia was taking part in her second event of the day. Sophia achieved another personal best, with a fantastic jump of 3.48m, which secured her the bronze medal.
Our final competitors on the track were our Year 4 Girls’ relay team who had patiently waited all day for their event. An excellent team performance with slick baton change overs and fast sprinting ensured our team of Ruby, Daisy, Imogen and Sophia were rewarded with the silver medal.
We are extremely proud of their results, as qualifying for this national event at the Alexander stadium is a wonderful achievement in itself.
