End of Term Hockey Report

It has been an extremely successful term for girls’ hockey at Lingfield: our most successful term to date. We have played over 150 fixtures with over 160 girls representing the school. We’ve also had many chosen to represent their county.

Firstly the Y7 girls have adapted well to Senior School hockey with some good performances. Jess O, Enya H and Amy M deserve a special mention. Our Y8 girls have had great success with the A team recently finishing runners up behind Sevenoaks at the EGHA tournament only losing 0-1 in the final. There have been some strong performances, especially from Zena M, Emily H and Anna B.

The Y9 girls have had mixed results but have done really well adapting to the 11 a-side hockey. I’d like to mention Freya D and Poppy A who also had their 1st team debut this season.  The Y10 girls showed promise with some talented girls coming through. Sophie H has really made her mark and Maddie G had shown maturity leading the A team. All girls from Year 7 to 10 have represented the School in a fixture this term, which is great to see.

Lastly, our senior first team has had a near faultless term only losing 2 of their Cup Fixtures but not losing a single friendly match. I’d like to say a thank you to the other senior first team players Katrina H, Olivia B and Scarlett W for all their support this season. Our second team have also had a fantastic approach to hockey, with both teams setting a high standard for coming years.

A group of us have recently returned from a very enjoyable Hockey Tour to Bath, where we were able to watch and experience the great hockey facilities Bath University has to offer. It was nice to have a mixture of years playing and socialising together and the whole weekend was a great success.

To finish our term, yesterday both the U18 girls and U16 boys competed in the Indoor Regional Schools’ hockey finals.  The boys did brilliantly beating tough opposition and finishing in 4th place. The girls were not as successful, but did brilliantly to get that far and this has been quite an achievement for us.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to our hockey staff. Our head of hockey, Mr Mackey, Coach Tijn, Miss Thompson and Mr Blood for all their hard work and dedication in providing an excellent term of hockey for all the girls.
