End of Term Football Report from the Captain - Paul F

I am pleased to say that the 1st XI Football team has been one of the school’s most successful teams again this term.

Although we suffered extremely narrow defeats to Abingdon and Worth in the ISFA & ESFA Cups respectively, we have also recorded some credible victories against a number of much larger schools, including Sutton Grammar, Sevenoaks, Trinity and Sackville with the prospect of further victories against Imberhorne and Wellington College during the final stages of the term.

Joe D and Luca J, regular 1st teamers from Year 11, have also been instrumental in ensuring the U/16 team are still in contention in the latter stages of the ISFA Cup after wins against Wetherby, Meoncross and Buckswood.  In the match against Meoncross, Joe D produced the individual performance of the season so far in scoring 5 and providing an assist for 4 of our 11 goals.

The U/15A team have also had a relatively successful term.  As well as convincing wins against Greycourt and Wilsons, the team have produced a series of wins in the ESFA cup to ensure that they will also be playing some Football next term.

The highlight for the U/14’s was their dramatic win against Claremont in the ESFA Cup.  Trailing 3-2 with 10 seconds remaining, the team levelled with virtually the last kick of the game before scoring the decisive goal in extra time.

The U/12A team have impressed throughout the term.  Although their progression in the ESFA Cup was thwarted in the 3rd round against the probable overall winners, Royal Russell, this team have played some excellent football which bodes well for the future, especially when they beat Sutton Grammar 10-0.

I am hopeful that I will be able to report positively on the cup progress of the U/15 and U/16 teams at February half-term.
