ISA 5-a-side win

On Friday 6th March we travelled to compete in the rescheduled ISA London South Regional 5-a-side Football Tournament which was being held at the Crystal Palace Sport Centre.

Our boys made a good start to the tournament with a 3-0 victory over last year’s winners Duke of Kent School. This was quickly followed by a 2-0 victory over St Olaves. Our positive start was knocked a little by a narrow 1-2 defeat to Bishop Challoner and a 0-3 loss to St Chrisopher’s The Hall. The boys quickly bounced back with a convincing 4-0 win against Oakhyrst Grange. A frustrating 2-2 draw against Rosemead Prep where we were the dominant team throughout meant we had to avoid defeat in our last game to progress to the quarter finals. A comfortable 2-0 win against Whitehouse School resulted in us finishing 2nd in the group.

In the quarter finals we faced Oakfield Prep. The boys performed superbly and established an early lead through some excellent attacking play and went on to win the game 4-0 and qualify for the national finals. In the semi-final, we played Radnor House who had won 9 out of 9 games during the morning. Lingfield once again stepped up to the occasion and performed brilliantly, winning the game 2-0.

In the final we played against earlier group opponents, St Christopher’s The Hall, who had a 100% win record on their way to the final. The boys defended resolutely and tried to quickly counterattack when possible. These tactics worked extremely well as we led 1-0 at half time. St Christopher’s equalised from the penalty spot late on to take the game into extra time. We started the extra time period quickly and scored to take a 2-1 lead soon after the restart. The team continued to play and defend amazingly to secure the regional title with this 2-1 win.

The team played fantastic football throughout the morning and we can now look forward to another overnight trip to the prestigious England FA training facility, St George’s Park in May.

Many congratulations to; Jayden, Charlie, Matthew, Rio, Lucas, Josh & Max.
