Government figures and statistics show that basketball is the most popular team sport for young people in this country after football. Lingfield College is in the process of upholding these findings!
The College has three teams playing at junior, intermediate and senior levels with over fifty players involved in selection for those teams. More players have opted to join the lunchtime club sessions.
The Senior team have played well and produced some good performances. The most notable game was a victory over Oxted in the Surrey All Schools Cup.
The Intermediate team has performed with admirable courage. They are a year 9 team playing in a year 10 competition. Their enthusiasm, energy and application in training cannot be faulted and we look forward to next year when, as in year 10, they will be playing in a league of their own age group.
The Junior team consists of players from years 7 and 8. They have had a good season in terms of results, losing only once to a strong Greycourt school in a friendly. They are undefeated in the Reigate and District League and are heading to the play-offs with much anticipation.
All three age-groups have qualified for these play-off finals which will be held 20th and 27th March at the K2 in Crawley - a fantastic achievement!
Basketball coaches Mrs Nyborg and Mr Hibbs have exciting plans and ideas to take Lingfield College to the next level in the future!
